I remembered (after seeing Johnny on a rerun of a Tennessee Ernie Ford TV show) that he had written many popular songs and would like to see a list of his most popular tunes.

Johnny Mercer, along with Jimmy Van Heusan and Johnny Burke, was and is at the absolute pinnacle of the mountain top of song writers in the entire twentieth century. There aren't but a very select few who can compare. In the 60's and 70's, Lennon and McCartney did a fairly nice job. Could anyone out there tell me what's happened of late. Who's in control of this industry today? It's sad. I know the new Mercers, Van Heusens, Cahns, Robins, McCartney's, Joels, etc. are out there. BUT WHERE? Maybe a new era is around the corner. Great site -- lots of info -- although I must admit I haven't read EVERYTHING yet, I could use more anecdotes about individual songs. I work for the Braille Institute in LA, and because we are beneficiaries of the Johnny Mercer Foundation, we do a festival every year of his music. This site has been a big help.

Isn't the internet great? Three years ago I couldn't have cared less who this Mercer character was. Then I heard a Johnny Mercer free form on a college radio station and got hooked. This guy is flat-out terrific, and I have yet to hear a song that he wrote or sang that I don't adore. Finding this website was a very pleasant surprise and I appreciate it a whole lot! Thanks!

Iam so excited about finding this page. I lived in Savannah for ten years -'38-'48. Always loved Johnny's music and since I felt I was from Savannah felt very close to him. I have much more to explore on this web page. Thank you. I am still looking for the words to The Sweetheart Tree. Bye for now.
